American Shipper is reporting that the USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is proposing to allow the import of all varieties of Fuji apples from Japan. Of course, certain conditions must be met. To prevent the import of yellow peach moths and fruit tree spider mites, all shipments will be required to undergo cold treatment and fumigation, which will be supervised by APHIS officials in Japan.

FAS Announces GSM-102 Credit Guarantees for Ag Exports to the Americas

The USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service has announced the availability of credit guarantees for sales of U.S. agricultural commodities under the Commodity Credit Corporation's Export Credit Guarantee Program (GSM-102). For fiscal year 2010, guaranteed amounts to the Central America region will be $30 million, to the Caribbean Region will be $60 million, and to Mexico will be $45 million. These guarantees are to cover sales of any of the commodities specified in the GSM list of commodities.
