Last month, Amber Road broadcasted part two of our Export Compliance Webinar Series, which focused on Product Classification. Our presenters, Scott Lewis and Steve Keighley (both of Amber Road), got several questions throughout the webinar, but didn’t have time to answer them all during the live broadcast. We compiled their responses into a Q&A document - here is a sneak peek:

Can Export On-Demand be used to obtain an HTS code and an ECCN number?

  • Steve Keighley: Export On-Demand comes with HTS and ECCN content that can be searched based on a description or by any part of the HTS, ECCN, or ML number. It is not meant to be used as a classification wizard, where Export On-Demand will derive the classification for you, but instead gives you the tools to assign the correct classification.

We are a contract manufacturer, so we don’t make our own products. Is there a partner portal where vendors, suppliers, and/or customers can provide certain data elements that we can use to classify products?

  • Scott Lewis: Yes. This can be accomplished using our Questionnaire Manager product in conjunction with Export On-Demand. You can use the Questionnaire Manager to build specific classification questions for each product. The responses can be attached to the part number.

Are users notified when HTS numbers have been changed or deleted by the trade commission?

  • Steve Keighley: The updated HTS will be available within 24 hours of the change. If an expired or changed HTS is used, the part number will go on hold. Amber Road notifies customers of all content changes made to the application (including HTS numbers) in a weekly newsletter.
